Danville, KY – Last home game of the season, not the result wanted as Centre falls to Sewanee 67 – 65.
Centre set the tone early, scoring behind a jumper from
Ka'Niah Edelen before
Lilly Reid heated up from beyond the arc, knocking down two three-pointers in the quarter and staying active on the glass, helping the Colonels get ahead by as many as nine points midway through.
Sewanee responded behind strong interior play from Janie Boyd, who scored inside and added a put-back, while Brian Keating-Rendon contributed at the free throw line. scors from Olivia Farley and Grace Gavin helped the Tigers as they began to chip away at the deficit late in the quarter.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle featuring multiple lead changes and strong runs from both sides.
Centre went right back at with an early lead aided by free throws from Lilly Ried and
Ka'Niah Edelen, but the Tigers answered quickly, with Addison Howard scoring on the inside and Keating-Rendon caught fire from deep, knocking down multiple three pointers to give Sewanee their first lead of the game midway through the quarter.
In the final minute, Centre capitalized on turnovers and fastbreak opportunities, with Miles finishing a transition layup to push the lead out to six before Sewanee scored just before the buzzer.
The third quarter was the tightest stretch of the game, packed with ties and lead changes.
The Sewanee Tigers erased the halftime deficit early, as Hannah Cleveland and Eliza Everett helped tie it at 40–40. Brian Keating-Rendon briefly gave Sewanee the lead with a three, but a technical foul allowed the Centre Colonels to swing momentum back at the free-throw line.
Cleveland sparked a mid-quarter surge to put Sewanee ahead 52–49, but Centre responded through
Tessa Miles and
Claire Russell in transition. After more back-and-forth action and a 54–54 tie, Russell split free throws late to give Centre a narrow 55–54 edge entering the fourth.
The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle that went down to the final second.
The Centre Colonels grabbed an early edge off a turnover, but Hannah Cleveland answered to tie it at 57–57. Centre pushed ahead 61–57 behind
Lola Fouts and Kaniah Edelen, before the Sewanee Tigers responded to make it 61–61.
