DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre baseball left no doubt from the onset of tonight's game against the Brevard Tornados as they scored 13 runs in the first three innings, eventually cruising to a 14-0 run rule victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels staged a two-out rally to put a crooked number on the board in the first inning.
Evan Weyler and
Aaron Lopez delivered consecutive singles and eventually scored on wild pitches. After
Evan Rygalski walked and
Graham Johnson was hit by a pitch, another wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position and
Jamison Craig drove both of them in with a base hit.
- In the second,
Forrest Day led off with an infield hit and stole second. A single from
Chase Austin made it 5-0 and then Centre added to the lead as Weyler doubled off the wall. An error led to another Centre run and then Johnson delivered an RBI single to make it 8-0.
- Centre kept up the pressure in the third, putting runners on the corners after
Baylor Woodall singled and stole second and Day reached on an error. Austin and
Ayden Lohr came through with consecutive RBI singles and then a sacrifice fly from Weyler put Centre on top 11-0. Rygalski and Johnson capped off a five-run inning with a pair of hits for RBIs and Centre led by 13.
- The final run came in the sixth after
Jonah Porter was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch, the third run scored by Centre on wild pitches for the night. All the while, starter
Nolan Asher cruised through six innings, giving way to
Aiden Hansen for a scoreless seventh inning in his collegiate debut.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre used 14 hits to record their 14 runs on the night. The Colonels shared the wealth, with no Centre player finishing with more than two hits or two RBIs.
- The Colonels were super aggressive on the basepaths tonight, finishing with a total of ten stolen bases. Seven players combined for Centre's ten thefts, led by Lohr with three.
- Asher improved to 3-0 on the year as he allowed just two hits in six shutout innings while striking out ten batters.
