DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre baseball saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon as Dominican staged a rally in the ninth inning to beat the Colonels 4-3.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Trailing 1-0 in the third inning,
Forrest Day led off the bottom half of the inning with a base hit, stole second, was advanced to third and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from
Ayden Lohr to tie the game.
- After loading the bases in the fourth and coming away with no runs, the Colonels loaded them in again the fifth and put up a crooked number on the board.
Evan Rygalski worked a walk on a long at-bat to drive in a run and
Graham Johnson lifted a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 game.
- The Centre pitching staff kept the Stars at bat in the later innings as
Zach Heavern, pitching in his fourth inning of relief, picked off a lead runner at second base to end a Dominican threat in the eighth.
- Centre quickly got the first two hitters out in the ninth and on four straight at-bats, had Dominican down in the count and down to their last strike, but all four resulted in hits as the Stars scored three in the ninth to take the lead.
- The Colonels got a runner on third base in the bottom of the ninth following an
Aaron Lopez single and an error, but failed to get the runner the final 90 feet across.
