Danville, KY – Centre Colonels sparked too late, they fell to John Carroll 17 to 4.
At the start of the quarter, John Caroll jumped out ahead early with the first goal from Mary Grace Godleski, her first of three, to spark the Streaks' offense in the opening. Abby Cassidy capitalized on a free-position opportunity, and Anna Spitzer found the net off a Godleski assist as the Blue Streaks capitalized on early possessions.
Centre broke through midway in the quarter with a goal from
Sophia Richardson and generated a few additional chances, including a shot off the post, but struggled to finish consistently.
Strong draw control and defensive pressure allowed John Carroll to carry a four-goal advantage into the second quarter.
The Blue Streaks continued their offensive surge with goals from Kenzie Krom and Mea Musillo early, while remaining disciplined, forcing turnovers and limiting Centre's shot quality, which allowed them to maintain the lead into halftime.
John Carroll continued their dominant performance in the third quarter, with Anna Spittzer scoring twice – one goal being a man-down goal to push the advantage even further. Despite several penalties throughout the quarter, the Blue Streaks' defense held strong.
Centre was able to generate a few quality chances, including a shot off the post, but could not break through, heading into the final period still behind.
Karson Martin scored early in the period off an assist from Allie Quinn, and later Kathleen Cagney found the net, assisted by Ann Vaccarelli, giving John Carroll a comfortable margin.
Centre was able to respond late with three goals.
Olivia Sweasy opened the scoring, followed by
Sophia Richardson, and
Mary Sterling Anderton capped the scoring with a man-up goal assisted by
Audrey Haines.
While the Colonels were able to generate more offense, John Carroll's early-game dominance and consistent defensive pressure kept the game in their favor, as Centre falls.
