Hein, McNeilly win national titles at NCAA Indoor Championships

3/13/2026 8:06:00 PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - It was the greatest day in the history of Centre track & field and one of the greatest days in the history of Centre athletics after juniors Chloe Hein and Serena McNeilly each won individual national championships on day 1 at the NCAA Indoor Finals.

In the women's long jump, Hein sat in third place after her first jump of the day, but it was the second jump that proved to be the difference maker as she posted a mark of 20-6.25 (6.25m) to take the lead and keep it. Hein was the only athlete in the field to post a mark of more than 20 feet, doing so two more times as she topped the field by over a full foot. Already the NCAA Division III record holder in the long jump, Hein's mark of 20-6.25 set a new NCAA Championship meet record.

McNeilly's record came in an exhausting pentathlon that lasted all day. Sitting in 13th place after the 60m hurdles, McNeilly dominated the high jump, setting a school record with a mark of 5-10.5 (1.79m) while racking up a whopping 966 points to take the lead. Still in the lead after the shot put, McNeilly picked up another win in the long jump with a mark of 18-5 (5.17m) for 732 more points. She then held on in the 800m to get the win with a new program record of 3,782 points, winning the event by 15 points and breaking her previous school record in the event by over 200 points.

Both Hein and McNeilly were not confined to their national championship events on a busy Friday. McNeilly matched her personal best mark in the long jump at 19-0.75 (5.81m) to post a fourth place finish and earn All-America First Team honors, giving her eight All-America nods in her college career. In the women's 60m, Hein finished with a time of 7.64 to finish 12th overall, guaranteeing her a spot on the All-America Second Team and giving her seven All-America honors during her time at Centre.

The NCAA Championships will resume for both Hein and McNeilly on Saturday as both will compete in the triple jump at 3 PM CDT, while McNeilly will also compete in the high jump at 1:30 PM CDT.
