Danville, KY – The Colonels attempted a late comeback but ultimately fell to Sewanee, 16–9.
The opening period was a struggle for the Colonels, beginning with an early penalty on Emma Potter. Sewanee quickly capitalized, as Marlin Price found the back of the net to give the Tigers the early lead. Centre struggled to generate offense as Sewanee maintained momentum.
The Tigers continued their run midway through the quarter with goals from Whitehead, Bean, Herrington, and Price, extending their lead to 5–0. Centre finally broke through late in the period when Gracie Garner scored off an assist from Mary Sterling Anderton, sending the game into the second quarter with the Colonels trailing 5–1.
Sewanee carried that momentum into the second quarter, adding three more goals to take an 8–1 lead midway through the period. Centre responded late in the quarter with a goal from Lauren Elder to stay within striking distance.
The Tigers closed out the half with a goal from Ellen Lewis, assisted by Alexa Berg, heading into halftime with a 9–2 lead.
Coming out of the half, the Colonels made noticeable offensive adjustments. Sophia Richardson and Collen Stahl each scored early in the third quarter to spark a Centre surge. Sewanee answered with two goals of their own to slow the Colonels' momentum.
However, Centre found the net twice more late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 11–6. The Tigers added a late goal from Sally Herrington, assisted by Katherine Clark, to enter the fourth quarter with a six-goal advantage.
The final quarter opened with back-and-forth scoring. Sewanee struck first with a goal from Elizabeth Muller, assisted by Ellen Lewis. Centre quickly responded as Mary Sterling Anderton found the net. The Tigers regained control with a goal from Lewis and another from Whitehead minutes later, extending the lead to eight midway through the quarter.
Centre continued to battle, with Gracie Garner scoring off an assist from Sophia Richardson. The Colonels attempted to capitalize on two Sewanee green cards but were unable to generate sustained offense.
Centre closed the game with a late goal from Gracie Garner—her fourth of the day—but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 16–9.
The Colonels will remain at home as they continue conference play, facing Southwestern on March 27.
