Danville, KY- Centre manages to take the win over Oberlin in a close scoring game as the final score ends at 12-11
Oberlin jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, as Jacob Starcke opened the scoring before Solomon Brennan added another goal to make it 2–0. Centre responded midway through the period, with Graysen Jolly getting them on the board and Thomas Tyack quickly tying the game at 2–2.
After several defensive stops and missed opportunities on both sides, Centre seized momentum late in the quarter when Ryan Black scored with just 16 seconds remaining to give Centre a 3–2 lead heading into the second period.
Centre extended its lead early in the second quarter when Eli Carberry found the net to make it 4–2, but Oberlin quickly responded with back-to-back goals from Brennan and Sardina to even the score at 4–4.
The teams traded possessions and scoring chances throughout the middle of the period, with both goalies coming up with key saves to keep things tight. Late in the quarter, Centre regained the advantage as Ryan Black scored off an assist from Nico Valentino, giving Centre a 5–4 lead heading into halftime after a competitive and back-and-forth second period.
Centre took full control in the third quarter, breaking open the game with a dominant scoring run. Samuel Berry started the surge early, followed by goals from Ben Hubbs and Thomas Tyack to quickly extend the lead. Nick Witcher added back-to-back goals, pushing Centre's advantage to 10–4 and capping a six-goal run fueled by strong offensive pressure and forced turnovers.
Oberlin struggled to find rhythm for much of the period but showed late resilience, as Nicholas Cuda, Cooper Zancosky, and Cuda again scored in the final minutes to cut the deficit to 10–7 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Yo-Men mounted a strong comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, opening with back-to-back goals from Cooper Zancosky and Jacob Starcke to cut the deficit to one. After Centre answered with a key goal from Eli Carberry to slow the momentum, Graysen Jolly extended the lead to 12–9 midway through the period.
Oberlin continued to fight, getting goals from Solomon Brennan and Andrew Rosa to make it a one-goal game again at 12–11. Despite several late chances, including shots in the final seconds, Oberlin was unable to find the equalizer, and Centre held on for a narrow 12–11 victory.
The Colonels play another in-conference opponent as they take on Rhodes at home on March 28th at 1 pm.
