JACKSON, Miss. - The Centre baseball snapped a three-game losing streak as baseballs were flying out of the ballpark in a 9-4 victory over the Millsaps Majors on Friday night.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The fireworks started early for the Colonels as
Ben Prather took the third pitch of the ballgame and deposited it over the left field fence for an early 1-0 lead for Centre.
- Centre added to the lead in the third inning as
Baylor Woodall led off with a solo shot to left to put the Colonels up 2-0, but Millsaps tied the score in the bottom of the inning and the game stayed deadlock for the new few frames.
- With the game still tied in the sixth,
Aaron Lopez led off with a base hit, and then a Millsaps error put runners on second and third. An RBI groundout by
Forrest Day put the Colonels back on top and Centre added to the lead after
Matthew Maggard scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2.
- In the seventh, the Colonels continued to apply the pressure after a leadoff single by
Jamison Craig and an opposite field double into the gap by Prather to give Centre a 5-2 lead.
- With the game still close in the ninth, Prather blasted his second home run of the night to increase the Centre lead to 6-2. After a base hit by
Ayden Lohr,
Chase Austin came up and put one over the fence for a two-run homer and an 8-2 advantage for the Colonels. After Lopez doubled the other way, the senior second baseman eventually scored on a Millsaps error to cap off a four-run rally.
- The Majors scored a pair of runs in the ninth on productive outs, but
Zach Heavern, working his fifth inning in relief of
Nolan Asher, slammed the door on the rally with a strikeout for the 27th out of the game.
