GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Centre baseball team traveled south to face the Southwestern Pirates for a Friday doubleheader. The Colonels used the long ball to win 8-2 in the opener before the offense faltered in a 4-3 loss in game 2.
Game 1: Centre 9, Southwestern 2
- The Colonels hit early and often to start the doubleheader. In the second at-bat of the game,
Ayden Lohr put the Colonels on the board with a solo homer for a quick 1-0 lead.
- Centre then put runners on the corners after consecutive singles from
Chase Austin and
Evan Weyler.
Aaron Lopez drove both runners in with a double down the line to make it 3-0.
- Southwestern answered in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs and the lead stayed at 3-2 for the next two innings.

Forrest Day led off the top of the fourth with a double and was quickly driven in after
Baylor Woodall homered to make it a 5-2 Centre lead.
Jamison Craig followed with a bunt single and advanced to third after a base hit by Austin. A shot up the middle from Weyler capped off the crooked inning for the Colonels to extend the lead to 6-2.
- In the fifth, Day took the second pitch he saw and deposited it over the right field fence for a solo homer that made it a 7-2 game. The final run came courtesy of yet another homer as Weyler pulled one over the fence in the top of the eighth.
Game 2: Southwestern 4, Centre 3
- The Pirates got on the board first in the opening inning, loading the bases early and scoring a run on a single.
Harrison Cowdrey avoided further damage with three bases loaded strikeouts to escape the inning with a 1-0 deficit.
- In the fourth, the Colonels loaded the bases on consecutive walks by Lopez, Austin and
Matthew Maggard. An RBI groundout from Day tied the game.
- Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Day smacked a base hit up the middle before Woodall hit a line drive homer over the left field fence to tie the game at 3-3.
- Southwestern used small ball to retake the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring after a single, a sac bunt, a wild pitch and a sac fly to go back up 4-3.
- The Colonels got the tying run in scoring position with one out in the ninth as Lohr doubled down the line, but after Weyler walked, the next two Centre batters went down in order.
