Springfield, OH -Centre women's golf had a strong performance at the Pahhni Spring Intercollegiate, finishing 2
nd overall in team standings. The Colonels declared this tournament as senior recognition for Senior
Janie Morgan.
Round 1 saw a mixture of strong performances and challenges for the players. Senior
Janie Morgan led the team with a solid score of 76 (+4), starting with a steady 38 (+2) on the front nine, featuring pars on holes 2,3,7,8, and 9. a few scattered bogeys on the back nine prevented her from shooting lower.
Ellie Roof kept it competitive with a score of 79 (+7), battling through a tough front nine of 41(+5), but bounced back strongly on the back nine with a 38 (+2).
Nithya Nunna followed closely with an 81 (+9), starting with a challenging front nine but impressively recovering with an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Ceci Coccia had a mixed round, posting a solid 39 (+3) on the front nine but struggling on the back nine with a 44 (+8), finishing with 83 (+11).
Emerson Vaughn also had an up-and-down day, shooting 42 (+6) on the front nine but showing signs of recovery with a 41 (+5) on the back.
Grace Vernon rounded out the group with 84 (+12) as mistakes on holes 4, 5, and 18 contributed to a higher score.
The final round showed some changes on the player leaderboard as Nunna improved from her round one score, posting a total of 75 (+3). While she showed some struggle on the front nine, the back nine was a different story as she regained rhythm and shot an even par 36, placing her in sixth overall on the player leaderboard.
Morgan had a fall from grace as she finished with a score of 82(+10). On the front nine, she shot a solid 37 (+1), managing to keep a strong front with a mix of pars and bogeys.
The back nine proved to be the struggle as she made a few big mistakes, including a double bogey on 12.
Coccia shot a 75 (+3). She opened with a steady front nine of 37 (+1), highlighted by birdies on holes 2 and 5 but offset by a couple of bogeys.
On the back nine, she posted a 38 (+2), including a double bogey on 12, but finished strong with birdies on 17 and 18.
Ellie Roof carded an 85 (+13) in Round 2. She began with a 41 (+5) on the front nine, where early bogeys and a double bogey on the 5th put her behind, though she did find some stability with a par on the 3rd and a composed finish on 9.
The back nine was more difficult, as she recorded a 44 (+8), with several strokes lost during the middle stretch, particularly from holes 15 through 17.
Emerson Vaughn and
Grace Vernon both finished at +13 and +14, respectively, in challenging rounds marked by strong contrasts between their nines.
Vaughn carded an 85 (+13), starting with a 41 (+5) before a tougher back nine of 44 (+8), while Vernon posted an 86 (+14), struggling to a 47 (+11) on the front but rebounding with a much improved 39 (+3) on the back.
Colonels are back at it next week as they travel to the Conference Tournament on April 24
th – 26
