Danville, Ky - Centre ends the regular season with a big win againstĀ
Centre set the tone immediately by controlling faceoffs and possession, which translated into constant offensive pressure. After an early save by Hendrix goalie Cooper Littleton, Centre broke through at 12:57 when Thomas Tyack scored the first goal. From there, the floodgates opened.
Tyack and Ryan Black led the charge, combining for multiple goals and assists as Centre went on an extended scoring run. Goals came in quick successionāhighlighted by a stretch of four goals in under two minutes midway through the quarterāleaving Hendrix unable to recover defensively.
Hendrix struggled to clear the ball and committed several turnovers, which Centre consistently turned into scoring opportunities. Offensively, Hendrix generated very little, with only a few shots and no sustained possession in the attacking zone.
The second period got off to a quieter start, but quickly the Colonels got right back to a strong offensive pressure withĀ three goals in a short stretch to build on their first-quarter dominance. The WarriorsĀ showed some improvement with better clears and more shot attempts, eventually breaking through with a goal from Matthew Parsons late in the period.
Despite that progress, Hendrix continued to struggle with turnovers and couldn't sustain offensive pressure, while Centre remained efficient and in control heading into halftime.
Colonels struck twice early in the opening of the second halfĀ to push the margin further, continuing to capitalize on Hendrix turnovers and sustained possession. Midway through the quarter, Hendrix showed a spark with back-to-back goals from Zachary Cox and Harrison Briggs, briefly building some momentum and creating more offensive pressure than in earlier periods.
However, that momentum was short-lived. Centre quickly responded with another goal and continued to generate scoring chances, keeping Hendrix on the defensive. Despite a few saves and stronger stretches of play, Hendrix couldn't string together enough consistent possessions to close the gap.
Centre added an early goal in the fourthĀ to push the margin even further and continued to control possession through steady clears and pressure on defense. Even as the pace slowed, they kept Hendrix from building any consistent offensive rhythm.
Hendrix generated more shots in the fourth and eventually scored late through Joey Davis, but turnovers and missed opportunities continued to limit any real comeback threat. A late penalty also gave Hendrix a brief extra-man chance, but it didn't change the outcome, with the game concluded with a final score of 19 - 4.Ā
Centre Colonels are back in action next week as they compete in game 2 of the SAA Semi-Final for a repeat matchup against Rhodes.Ā
