DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre baseball played its final midweek game of the regular season and earned a 14-2 run rule victory over a Transylvania team ranked just outside the top 30 in the latest ABCA poll.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In the bottom of the second, the first two Centre hitters reached as
Aaron Lopez led off with a walk and
Graham Johnson was hit by a pitch. After a
Jonah Porter infield hit loaded the bases,
Forrest Day lined a double just over the head of the first baseman for a quick 2-0 lead.
- The Colonels added to their lead in the third as
Evan Weyler hit a leadoff single, stole second and eventually scored on a base hit from
Baylor Woodall.
- Centre loaded the bases in the fourth without putting the ball in play. Day led off with a walk and
Ayden Lohr was hit by a pitch, followed by a walk from
Chase Austin. With two outs, Lopez worked a walk for an RBI and then
Jamison Craig sent everybody home with a grand slam that put the Colonels ahead 8-0.
- Transylvania got a run back in the top of the fifth, but Centre again went on the offensive as
Ben Prather was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game and Lohr followed with a ground-rule double. The first run of the inning came after a wild pitch and then Austin and Weyler walked to load the bases again for Craig. The sophomore right fielder delivered yet another grand slam for his eighth RBI of the night and a 14-1 lead.
- The Pioneers managed another run in the sixth, but
Aidan Carr came on in relief with the bases loaded and recorded a strikeout to keep the run rule in play.
John Kosobud struck out the side in the seventh to lock up the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Craig's eight RBIs tied a program record for most in a game, most recently achieved by Austin in 2023. It is also the only time in Centre baseball history since game by game data existed that a player hit two grand slams in a game.
- Centre pitchers recorded ten of their 21 outs on the night via strikeout.
