Danville, Ky. - Centre Athletics has named Ashton Whitt '24 as its new Head Coach of Men's Tennis. Whitt takes over for Rich Benson, who departed the college over the summer.

Whitt joins the coaching ranks after a stellar playing career at Centre. As a student-athlete, Whitt was named 1st Team All-SAA as a freshman in 2021 and an ITA Scholar Athlete. He would go on to garner 2nd Team honors in 2022 and 2024 in singles competition. He graduated from Centre in 2024 with a major in Physics and minor in Computer Science. He carried a 3.85 GPA while earning Dean's List honors.

Whitt detailed his excitement to lead Centre Men's Tennis into the future. "Centre Tennis gave me my greatest college memories. My greatest highs, but also my lowest lows. I'm thrilled to step into this role and for the opportunity to be part of these next generation's experience. Centre always felt like my second home and it's great to back. I am beyond grateful to Brad Fields and President Milton Moreland for the chance to lead our program into the future!"

Most recently, Whitt had served in a volunteer assistant role with the men's tennis program and was also a tennis instructor at Bluegrass Racquet Club. He developed and published an app for the club.

"Today starts an exciting new era for Centre Men's Tennis as one of its own takes the reigns. Ashton was an outstanding student-athlete at Centre and demonstrated to the search committee his desire to lead this program forward," said Brad Fields '98, Centre College Director of Athletics. "Ashton is a bright, thoughtful young leader who was a talented Colonel recruited to Centre under former head coach Currie Martin. I believe he has the passion for the using the game of tennis to mold young men, he's competitive, and he knows the transformative power of this place – firsthand. I'm excited for the future of Centre Men's Tennis."

Whitt's tennis prowess and expertise dates back to high school. At Morgan County, he was a 4-time letterman, all-state in 2020 and a 2-time regional singles champion. Whitt was also a National Honor Society President, and won the 2018 Boys USTA Sportsmanship Award.
