DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team hosted the Sewanee Tigers in their conference opener as part of a weekend tri-match that also featured Berea. No. 20 Centre continued the best start in program in program history, knocking off Sewanee in straight sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels snatched the early lead in the opening set and never looked back, gradually adding to their advantage and going up by as many as ten points at 19-9 following consecutive aces by
Mia Casi. Centre held on for a comfortable 25-17 win as
Syd Bietz put home the final kill in the set.
- The second set was much closer as the Colonels and Tigers traded the lead several times. With the score tied at 16-16, Centre scored six of the next seven points to take the lead for good, capping off the run with an ace from
Elle B Smith. Centre eventually got the win by a score of 25-18.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion as the first, with both teams making big runs to take the lead near the halfway point. Centre trailed 13-11 before unleashing five of the next six in a run that turned out to put them in front for good. Bietz delivered the final two kills to help Centre hold off a late Sewanee charge and win 25-21.
NEXT UP
Centre will head back on the road next week as they travel to Texas for conference contests, beginning with a matchup against Southwestern on Sept. 25.
