SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 14 Centre volleyball kicked off its weekend Texas road trip with a matchup against the Southwestern Pirates, hosted by Trinity. The Colonels made quick work of the Pirates, winning in straight sets thanks to their best offensive performance of the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In the opening set, the Colonels used a pair of 4-0 runs to break open a close game to take a 15-8 lead. Southwestern chipped away at the deficit and cut the Centre lead to 16-13 before the Colonels exploded with nine straight points to win 25-13.
Kendra Christopher had three kills in the final rally, including the last one to give Centre a 1-0 edge.
- An early 7-1 run put Centre on top in the second set, capped off by an ace from
Mia Casi. The Colonels eventually led by as many as ten points at 21-11 on a kill from
Syd Bietz before eventually winning 25-18 following consecutive kills from Bietz and
Mack Turner.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion as the first two, with Centre taking the early lead and gradually extending it throughout the set. A late 5-0 run blew it open for the Colonels as they went up by 12 at 23-11. Southwestern rallied for six straight before Casi stopped the run with a kill and Centre took the 25-17 win on the next point.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre's 9-0 run at the end of the first set was the team's longest run of consecutive points all season long.
- The Colonels hit a season high .353 for the match while holding Southwestern to .055. This included a second set that saw the Centre offense register just one error on the way to a .444 hitting percentage.
- Christopher led all players with a dozen kills, followed by Bietz with 11.

Elle B Smith finished with 41 assists, her highest total yet for a three-set match and 16 more than Southwestern recorded as a team.
- Centre held a 57-53 advantage in digs, led by
Campbell Miles, who finished with a game high 16.

The next game will be a clash of ranked teams as Centre takes on no. 5 Trinity on Saturday.
