DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football earned its first victory of the 2026 season as they shut out the Bridgewater Eagles 45-0 under the lights at
Andy Frye Stadium.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The defense set the tone on the opening series as
Seandre Maxberry came up with a sack on the first play from scrimmage, leading to an Eagles punt.
- Centre's offense marched down the field the first time they had the ball as
Clint Sansbury converted a short yardage play on fourth down to move the chains. A run from
Cree Ross moved the ball inside the Bridgewater 10 and then on third down, quarterback
Mason Trimble called his own number and dove into the end zone for the game's first score.
- On the next defensive series, Maxberry again took down the Eagles' quarterback in the backfield on third down to force another punt.
- Bridgewater got a drive going as the first quarter ended, reaching Centre's 22 before stalling. The Eagles attempted a field goal, but
Carson Combs got in for a block and
Corvin Gillespie picked up the loose ball and ran it to midfield.
- With a short field, Centre went back to work as Sansbury picked up the majority of the yardage on the downfield march. Trimble connected with
Dant Bowling on fourth down for 18 yards to reach the Bridgewater 8 before Sansbury ran it in on the next play for a 14-0 Centre lead.
- In the final minutes of the half, Trimble marched the Colonels down the field again. Bowling had the longest catch of the drive for 24 yards, setting up a 36-yard field goal from
Isaac Johnson to make it 17-0 at the half.
- Bridgewater had their most impressive drive of the game early in the third quarter, but as they set up for a short field goal, a bad snap forced the holder to throw the ball, and the pass ended up in the arms of
Kemonte Braxton, who raced 83 yards the other way for a Centre touchdown to make it 24-0.
- The defense struck again on the next series as
Will Delorimier recovered an Eagles fumble and returned it just outside the red zone to set up the offense nicely.
- Five plays later, Trimble connected with
Jakei Tarter for Centre's first passing touchdown of the season.
Kyle Davis then ran in for a two-point conversion to give Centre a 32-0 lead.
- A sack from
Daniel Smiley stopped an Eagles drive before it could get started. Centre's ensuing drive ended when
Dylan Gaiser broke a couple tackles for a 35-yard touchdown run.
- Centre's final touchdown came midway through the fourth quarter as
Jake Carson hit
Jaiden Etienne on a bomb for a 38-yard score. The defense preserved the shutout when
Tyler Wright fell on an Eagles fumble at the Centre 6 with just under four minutes left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre outgained Bridgewater 398-215 for the game, including limiting the Eagles to -25 rushing yards as a team on the strength of six quarterback sacks.
- Trimble was the leading passer and rusher in the game, completing 17-23 passes for 151 yards while rushing nine times for 62 yards and two total touchdowns.
- 11 different Centre players caught passes on the evening, led by Bowling's 49 yards on five catches.
- Defensively, nine different players recorded tackles for loss for the Colonels. Maxberry and
Ryan Steele led the way with six tackles each.
