League of Legends vs Murray State (9/24): Won 1-0
Centre League of Legends started strong in their placement games, beating Murray State University in the best of one (1-0). Their team composition focused on an aggressive top side of the map, with characters like pantheon, urgot, and zac. Powerful and tanky brusiers that wanted to brawl, where on the other hand the bottom half featured Viegar and Morgana, immobile mages focused on picks. Even though Centre was behind in the begining, their ability to communicate and fight as a team turned multiple fights over objectives into coordinated slaughters. Centre's first showing was a win.
League of Legends vs Southern Virginia (9/24): Loss 1-0
Game two of placements had a relativley even game against Southern Virginia University, Centre once again picked the aggresive toplane with mordekaiser, zac, and yasuo. Their bot scaled really well into late game with smolder and lux. The early game was quiet with a peaceful midlane and jungle. MetroMina (
Mina Hartman) secured an early lead in the bottom lane. Centre used this lead to win objective fights and secure the Baron Nashor. Unlike game one, Centre's team fighting was not coordinated enough and a bad engage opened their flank. A small mistake led to Centre's first loss.
League of Legends vs Mount Vernon Nazarene (9/24): Loss 1-0
Game three against Mount Vernon Nazarene University was a short a decisive loss. Esteramu (
Gabriel Habeeb) called out a lane swap with Lumberjack (
JT Taylor), which ended up backfiring. The result was both laners losing hard. Even with a winning botlane, the pressure from MVNU was overwhelming and Centre ended up cornered in their base. Game three ended with another loss. Centre will be competing in the NECC Division VI, specifically in the East B conference.
Marvel Rivals vs Montevallo (9/27): Loss 3-0
Centre's matchup against Montevallo University was certainly interesting to watch. Centre generally leaned into close range play styles that was complemented with occasional hitscan picks, but was met with a team that knew exactly how to split up a team. Centre found footing in moments where they could group together as a team, but struggled when split up. Montevallo successfully exploited this by using Dr. Strange Teleport tactics and unexpected flanks to catch Centre's backline off guard, splitting attention heavily. Centre found a few moments to break up the pattern such as a massive 3k Wanda ult from StarGarden (Leif Backer), but nothing that would stick, leading to a disappointing loss.
Rocket League vs West Georgia (9/27): Won 3-2 (6-1, 5-1, 2-3, 1-5, 5-4)
In one of the most thrilling series in Centre RL history, The Colonels fended off a reverse sweep in a 4-minute overtime. Game 1 began dominantly for Centre with 6 unanswered goals, 3 of which came from ACKess (
Adam Kessinger) who also found 5 saves. Game 2 was similarly dominant with Centre showcasing excellent passing plays. Despite an early Centre lead, UWG managed to catch up and take game 3 in overtime and then ran away with things in game 4. With the series tied, ACKess opened things strong with a hat trick in the first minute. However, at the halfway mark, UWG answered back with 4 back-to-back goals of their own and sent the game into a long overtime. After grueling nearly 4-minute back and forth, who else but MVP ACKess sank the final shot to take the series.

Valorant vs Grand Valley State (9/28): Loss 2-1 (7-13, 14-12, 5-13)
Centre Valorant Team faced a tough challenge in their first NECC match of the season against GVSU Club Black. The Colonels fought through all three maps but unfortunately fell short, losing the series 2–1.
The Colonels started their match on Lotus, where GVSU took an early 4–1 lead. However, a clutch from Francois Vinkles (
Huston Mountjoy) gave Centre the momentum they needed to fight back and end the first half evenly at 6–6. Going into the second half, Centre was unable to keep that same momentum, allowing GVSU to pull ahead and take the first map 13–7.
Not ready to back down, Centre went into the second map, Ascent, with an amazing start. Klippy (
Vedant Bhagat) secured a major 1v2 clutch early on, giving the Colonels the momentum to finish the first half with a 7–5 lead. Drag (
Briggs Cook) gave an outstanding performance, getting two aces, one in each half, to help keep Centre in the game. GVSU fought back in the second half and pushed the map into overtime, but the Colonels took two rounds back-to-back to secure a 14–12 victory and tie the series 1–1.
Going into the final map, Split, GVSU took control early and ended the first half with a 9–3 lead. Centre was in a tough spot and struggled to gain the momentum they needed to fight back. Unfortunately, the Colonels were only able to take two more rounds before GVSU closed out the map 13–5, winning the series 2–1.
Although it was a tough loss to start the season, Centre had some amazing individual plays and a hard-fought win on Ascent. The Colonels will look to carry those strong moments into their next NECC match.
