Louisville, Ky. - Centre Men's Soccer showed its resolve on Friday night with a big 4-0 bounce-back win over Berea on the first night of the JR Hoe Invitational.
Centre took the lead in the 8th minute. A foul inside the Berea penalty box gave the Colonels an early PK.
Tyler Smith stepped to the spot and calmly swept the ball into the net for the opening tally. Berea looked for an equalizer in the 14th minute, but Centre keeper,
Declan Miller, recorded one of his 5 saves on the night.
Ryan O'Hara came on in the 25th minute and would soon after pay dividends. In the 43rd minute, he found space through the Berea defense to slide a shot home to double Centre's lead going to halftime.
Berea came out in the second half looking to get on the board, but Miller was there twice in the opening 14 minutes for key stops. Centre nearly made it 3 in the 64th minute as the Colonels had 3 shots on goal in a matter of 16 seconds, but none were able to bounce in. The pressure continued and paid off in the 69th minute.
Nico Voight took a nice pass from
Ethan Cajuste and buried it to seal the win for the Colonels.
Kai Forsythe added the final tally for good measure in the 85th minute to complete the dominant night.
After struggling to find the target on opening night, Centre turned that around on Friday with a staggering 14 of 21 shots on goal. Nine different Colonels put shots on goal, further showing the team's versatility and unselfishness. The offensive attack also drew 8 corners, while the back line did not allow a single corner to Berea.
The Colonels wrap up the JR Hoe Invitational on Sunday with a matchup against Rose-Hulman, starting at 5:00pm in Louisville.
