Colonels torch Golden Eagles in second half, win 65-39

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball remained undefeated with a come-from-behind 65-39 victory against Spalding Wednesday evening, closing out their home slate inside Alumni Gymnasium for the calendar year.

The Colonels, who were 2-5 through seven games last season, improve to 7-0 despite trailing by as many as a dozen points in the first half. The visiting Golden Eagles fall to 3-5 overall.

Tucker Sine led Centre with 15 points - all in the second half - finishing 5 of 6 from beyond the arc.

HIGHLIGHTS
- An 11-day break proved to slow down the Colonels early, as Spalding built a 13-3 lead midway through the first half.
- Centre was held off the board for more than six minutes until a Jarod Griffin 3-pointer.
- The Colonel defense helped keep the game close, limiting the Golden Eagles to just 19 points while forcing 10 turnovers in the opening period.
- A late 6-0 spurt from Perry Ayers on consecutive 3-pointers was enough to hand Centre a 22-19 halftime lead.
- Centre's offensive struggles faded in the second half, as the home side gained a 43-32 advantage near the midway point.
- Sine would all but put the game away with a handful of long balls, and before long the Colonels' lead swelled to 56-39.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre scored 16 points off of 14 Spalding turnovers, and held a massive 26-3 advantage in points off the bench.
- Sine was joined by Ayers (13 points) and Bates (11) in double figures.
- Ayers and Hogan Brownley each hauled in five rebounds, as Centre out-rebounded Spalding 35-29 (21-11 in the second half).
