Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball put on a show for fans inside Alumni Gymnasium Friday evening, dominating Oglethorpe by a 75-54 score to inch closer to a Southern Athletic Association regular season title.
The Colonels (20-3, 11-1 SAA) also complete the sweep against the Stormy Petrels (13-10, 7-5) by an average margin of 22 points, having won 77-54 in Atlanta back on Jan. 11.
Centre is seeking its second consecutive SAA regular season crown, and can now clinch it with a win Sunday over Berry.
Three individuals finished in double figures Friday, including
Art Walker (14 points),
Jarod Griffin (13) and
Bailey Rakes (12).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Eight early points from Walker – including two 3-pointers – helped Centre jump out to an early 14-5 lead.
- After Oglethorpe pulled within 14-10, Griffin netted seven straight points to make it 21-10 midway through the period.
- That was part of a devastating 26-10 stretch to close the half, giving the Colonels a 40-20 advantage at the break. Centre shot 56% from the floor in the first period while holding Oglethorpe under 30% and just 1 of 9 from long range.
- The Petrels brought out a mix of zone defenses to start the second half, and a 9-3 Oglethorpe run forced an early timeout from the home team.
- Centre combatted the zone with timely 3-pointers, including two in a row from
Dawson Crump. The Colonels' first four made field goals of the half all came from deep.
- Late highlight dunks from
Perry Ayers and
RJ Smith punctuated the victory down the stretch.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre shot above 49% overall, and hit 12 of 27 3-pointers after draining 14 of 27 in the teams' first meeting.
- Walker, Griffin and Rakes each hit multiple 3-pointers. Griffin finished a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, as well.

Jakob Spitzer was solid in the post, finishing with six points and four boards while defending Oglethorpe big man and reigning SAA Player of the Week, Tom Inungu.
- Ayers led Centre with eight rebounds as the Colonels out-rebounded the Petrels, 40-32.
- Centre's depth was on display to the tune of 37 bench points.
