Colonels fall to Lions in road opener

CINCINNATI - After picking up a win in the season opener against Asbury, Centre men's basketball headed to Ohio for their first road game of the season against the Mount St. Joseph Lions. The Colonels shot poorly and struggled on the glass in a 77-66 loss.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Both teams were cold early as MSJ missed its first four shots from three-point range and Centre led 6-3 at the first media timeout on baskets by Kalib Thomas, Landen Hamilton and Nolan Wahl.
- The Lions heated up, scoring the next 12 points and held the Colonels at bay, eventually going up by double digits. MSJ led by as many as 15 points in the first half as Centre shot just 29 percent for the half. Two Izayiah Villafuerte free throws made it a 39-26 game at the half.
- The two teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second half before the Lions extended to as many as 18 points ahead. The Colonels went to the bench and responded with an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to eight. Carson Wooldridge came off the bench and hit two threes, and Centre made it 62-55 after five straight free throws by Villafuerte.
- Centre's comeback effort ran out of steam in the final seven minutes as MSJ scored the next 12 points to put the game out of reach.
