MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre men's basketball used blistering three-point shooting to extend their winning streak to five games as they knocked off the Hendrix Warriors 91-60 in tournament action at Rhodes.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Warriors scored the first four points of the game and held the Colonels scoreless for the opening three minutes of the contest, prompting a timeout. From there, the floodgates opened for the offense as Centre stormed back with three three-pointers in the next 65 seconds, one from
Nolan Wahl and two from
Jaxson Banks.
- The Colonels got a nice lift off the bench as
Ryan Shene banged in consecutive threes upon entering the game, but the Warriors hung tough, trailing by two at 22-20.
Kalib Thomas scored four straight and then
Landen Hamilton and
Hunter Coleman each knocked down threes to help Centre create some distance, going up by double digits for the first time after five straight points from
Izayiah Villafuerte. Two more long balls by Shene and Hamilton extended the lead and the Colonels entered the locker room at halftime with a 48-34 advantage.
- Early in the second half, the two teams exchanged baskets and Hendrix had narrowed the gap to 11 points at 57-46. That's when Centre put the game away with a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes, ramping up the defensive intensity and closing out the run by making three straight three-pointers.
- The Colonels took their largest lead at the end of the game on a layup by
Jackson Wise for the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre enjoyed a balanced scoring effort with five players in double figures. Shene had a new season high and tied for a game high with 16 points, followed by Banks with 15, Thomas with 13 and ten each for Hamilton and Villafuerte.
- The Colonels shot lights out from the field and from long range all game long. Centre finished at 56 percent from the field and an even 50 percent on 17 of 34 attempts from beyond the arc.
- Centre assisted on 21 of 35 made baskets in the game, led by Hamilton with six dimes.
- 12 different Centre players got into the scoring column and eight different Colonels connected on at least one three-pointer, led by Banks and Shene with four each.
