GEORGETOWN, Texas - Centre volleyball wrapped up their Texas road trip over the fall break week as the Colonels faced the Southwestern Pirates on the road for the second time this season. Centre played much better than they did in their first meeting, but the Pirates took the match in four sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was close the entire way, with six lead changes and 13 ties. Southwestern held a slim lead in the late stages as they went up 22-19, but Centre stormed back with a late rally. Trailing 23-22, Centre took the lead on an ace and a kill by
Syd Bietz, and then took the set 25-23 as
Mack Turner put home the clinching kill.
- Another close set followed as neither team was able to gain traction on the other with the two teams tied at 16-16. From there, the Pirates scored six in a row and then held off a late Centre rally to tie the match with a 25-22 win.
- The Colonels scored the first four points of the third set and held on to the lead for the most of it, leading by as many as six points at 18-12 before Southwestern stormed back to take their first lead at 22-21. A kill by Bietz put Centre back on top 24-23 to force a set point and Centre had another set point at 25-24 in extra points, but the Pirates scored the final three to win 27-25.
- Centre led 9-7 in the fourth set before Southwestern scored six points in a row to grab the lead for good as they eventually pulled away with a 25-15 win to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bietz had another excellent stat sheet as she led all players with 22 kills and 22 digs while hitting .408. Bietz's 22 kills tied a career high for a four-set match, while her 22 digs were a career high regardless of match length.

The Colonels will return home on Homecoming weekend with a pair of home games, beginning with a matchup against Millsaps as they look to sweep the season series.
