DANVILLE, Ky. – On a day when Centre volleyball unveiled brand new banners commemorating the 2024 Southern Athletic Association regular season title and first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the Colonels put a stamp on the day by completing a regular season series sweep of Millsaps, defeating the Majors in four sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was disjointed with neither team able to string together much of a rally. Both Centre and Millsaps used up their full allotment of substitutions with several points to go in the match, but the Majors scored six of the final eight points to take a 25-21 victory.
- In the second set, Centre got off to a strong start as they scored five of the first six points. The Colonels held onto the lead for almost all the set before Millsaps clawed back to tie the score at 22-22. Kills by
Hollye Tate and
Syd Bietz gave Centre a set point and then Tate teamed with
Abby Swartz on a tandem block to give the Colonels the 25-22 win.
- The Colonels blew open a close third set midway through as they scored five in a row to take a 20-13 lead, with blocks from Swartz accounting for two of those points.
Mady Mardock took over the closing stages of the set, providing three of the final four kills – including the clincher – to give Centre a 25-18 win.
- The fourth set was another close one with multiple lead changes and ties. The score was tied at 19-19 before Centre rallied for three points in a row. Millsaps cut the deficit to a point before a kill by
Mack Turner and an ace from
Amery Galan gave Centre a match point and the Colonels quickly scored again to take the match with a 25-21 victory.
