DESTIN, Fla. - The Centre women's golf team improved for the second straight day as they wrapped up play at the Golfweek October Classic at Sandestin resort. The Colonels saved their best team round for their last one as they finished 16th overall.
Centre fired a combined team score of 312 on Tuesday, six shots better than Monday's score and 15 shots better than Sunday's totals. The Colonels finished with a 54-hole score of 957, two shots back of Southwestern and 16 shots ahead of LeTourneau.
Individually, the top score of the day belonged to first-year
Ceci Coccia, who fired a round of 75, featuring a pair of birdies on par 3s at the fifth and 16th holes. After posting the lowest score by any Centre player during any round, Coccia finished at 238 for the tournament.
Centre's low scorer for the entire tournament was
Yelena Williams, who fired a score of 79 on Tuesday with a birdie on the 16th hole to land just inside the individual top 50 with a three-day score of 234.
Senior
Janie Morgan continued to climb up the leaderboard after a rough Sunday start as she finished with a score of 78, ending up at 240 through 54 holes.
Nithya Nunna and
Grace Vernon rounded out Centre's totals for the tournament as Nunna shot 80 on Tuesday and Vernon shot 85 to end up at respective tournament scores of 247 and 255.
