DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team improved to 10-6 on the year as they defeated the Sewanee Tigers in four sets to open up the home portion of the conference schedule.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After falling behind early, the Colonels used a pair of 5-0 runs to take control of the match.
Syd Bietz had two aces in the final rally as Centre took advantage of Sewanee miscues and won 25-14.
- In the second set, the Colonels scored the opening five points of the contest before Sewanee calmed things down and stayed alive. Late in the set, the Tigers scored six points in a row to take a lead they would not relinquish as they won 25-21 to even the match.
- Centre stormed out of the gates in the third set, jumping out to leads of 6-1 and 14-5. Sewanee could get no closer than four points the rest of the way as Centre pushed the Tigers to the brink with a 25-18 win.
- The Colonels trailed 12-10 in the fourth set before Bietz made her presence felt in an 8-1 run as she recorded three kills and two blocks during the stretch. Centre never trailed again after that as
Abby Swartz delivered the final kill in a 25-18 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bietz hit a season high with 22 kills on an impressive .462 hitting percentage, also a season high. Swartz added ten kills on a game high .533 hitting percentage.
- The Colonels finished with ten aces compared to four for the Tigers.
Olivia Chojnacki led all players with three aces while also adding 18 assists.

Emersyn Pannell paced the Colonels with ten digs.

Centre volleyball will hit the road again for the next two weeks as they begin with a trip to nationally ranked East Texas Baptist on Oct. 9.
