Colonels fall to no. 2 ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - Centre volleyball began its fall break tour of the Lone Star State with a matchup against the East Texas Baptist Tigers, ranked no. 2 in the latest AVCA poll. The Colonels battled the Tigers to the end, but lost in straight sets.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The opening set belonged to the Tigers, who scored five of the first six points and never looked back, leading by as many as 12 points before eventually winning by a score of 25-15.
- Centre played much better in the second set as they led for most of the early going, extending to a 14-10 advantage after a kill from Syd Bietz. ETBU responded in a big way, scoring eight of the next nine. Centre rallied to tie the score at 19-19 on a Hollye Tate kill but never regained the lead as the Tigers won a close one by a 25-23 margin.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion as the second, with the Colonels holding their own against the no. 2 team in the country and grabbing a 17-12 lead. Centre held off the Tigers for a long time as kills from Bietz and Abby Swartz gave the Colonels a 23-22 advantage, but ETBU scored the final three points to take the 25-23 win for the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Syd Bietz led the Colonels in both kills and digs, finishing with a dozen kills and leading all players with 15 digs.
- Centre held a .252-.248 advantage in hitting percentage, including a fantastic .425 percentage as a team in the third set.

NEXT UP

The Texas trip will continue for the Colonels over the weekend as they play return conference games against Trinity and Southwestern.
