Salem, VA — The Centre Colonels dominates in their first road game of the season, with a final score of 67-44 over Hollins University
The first quarter hinted at a competitive battle early, as Hollins settled in with back-to-back layups from Jacorra Russell and Gracie Huffard to take an early 4–0 lead.
However, the momentum shifted quickly, as multiple turnovers stalled their offense and Centre seized control.
Lilly Reid scored multiple layups and free throws which aided in the Colonels gain of a 7-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
Centre had a strong start to the second quarter, with
Arin Nipp and
Lindsay Jessie controlling the boards.
Ryleigh Campbell hit timely three-pointers, and
Lilly Reid and
Lindsay Jessie added baskets off
Charley Harper's assists.
Hollins' missed shots and turnovers allowed Centre to maintain firm control going into the half extending the lead to 34-16
After the first half, Centre continued as
Trinity Armour and
Lilly Reid hit key layups and threes, assisted by teammates, while Nipp and others dominated the boards. Hollins managed a few baskets late but could not close the gap.
Centre closed out the game strong, with scroing plays from Harper, Reid, and Campbell. Hollins tried to rally with scoring from Holden, Morales, and Gutierrez, but turnovers and missed shots kept them behind, allowing Centre to secure the win.
Centre looks ahead to Sunday as they play Roanoke at 3pm.
