DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's basketball team got off to a strong start to begin the 2025-26 season as a swarming defense led to an 82-39 victory over the Meredith Avenging Angels.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first points of the season came when
Arin Nipp crashed the offensive glass for a pair of rebounds before finding
Lindsay Jessie for a layup.
- The Colonels took a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter as
Claire Russell got inside for a jumper in the final minute.
- In the second quarter, the Colonels cranked up the defensive intensity and unleashed a full court press, forcing numerous Meredith turnovers. Centre scored the first nine points of the period to go up 24-13 as
Lilly Reid scored or assisted on every point of the rally.
- Leading 28-18, the Colonels recorded steals on four consecutive possessions, getting transition layups on three of them to go up by 16 points. A pair of buckets by
Trinity Armour gave Centre a 39-20 lead, and then
Ka'Niah Edelen and Reid each delivered a steal and score in the last minute to make it a 43-22 advantage for the Colonels at the half.
- Centre kept the pressure on in the third quarter, gradually increasing their lead.
Claire Russell and
Lola Fouts buried consecutive threes to put the Colonels up by 30 points for the first time at 61-30. The three-pointer by Fouts was the start of a personal 7-0 run for the first-year as Centre finished the third period up 65-30.
- The Colonels outscored Meredith 17-9 in the fourth quarter as
Isabelle Combs,
Kylie Floyd and
Charley Harper all got into the scoring column in the closing minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels forced 34 turnovers on the day while only committing nine, with 19 of them coming on steals. Centre outscored Meredith 44-4 in points off turnovers.
- Reid stuffed the stat sheet with a game high 20 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Armour scored a career high 12 points off the bench, while
Ryleigh Campbell added ten points.

The Colonels will head to Salem, Va. on Nov. 15-16 for tournament action, beginning with a matchup against Rollins.
