Tigers trounced by Centre men’s tennis

DANVILLE, Ky. - In a match that took nearly six hours to complete, the Centre men's tennis team defeated Campbellsville University 4-3. 

Division III schools are playing the 2024-25 season under the 7-point dual match format. The ITA and the NCAA announced the one-year, joint pilot of the scoring format in July of 2024. 

The Colonels earned the doubles point with two wins in paired play. Ben Rueff and Ty Bush proved again to be a strong pairing as they took down Sebastian Toledo and Nathan Boulard in the top double spot by a score of 7-6, 7-1 

Emilo Ventura Ramirez and Dylan Dethridge won their first match as a pairing with a 6-2 showing over Juan Ochoa and Manuel Pinheiro in the no. 2 doubles match. 

Jasper Gazzo and Chase Turley will still be looking for their first win as a pair in 2025 moving forward. The duo fell in the third-ranked match 6-4 to Michael Harding and Noah Grossmann. 

In singles play, Gazzo earned his second win of the season. The senior was victorious 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Toledo in the three slot. Dethridge followed in the no. 4 single contest and remained undefeated as he toppled Ochoa in a 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 comeback win.  

Turley took the no. 6 match via a default from his opponent Grossman. 

Rueff fell 6-3, 7-5 to Pinheiro in the top singles slot. The second match went to three sets and ultimately ended with Isaac Flanery being setback 7-6, 4-6, 3-6 to Boulard. Jett Anderson also fell as the no. 5 match went in favor of Harding by a score of 6-4, 7-6. 

WRAPPING UP
Centre has back-to-back home matches on the schedule. The Colonels host Midway on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. and Transylvania on Saturday, Feb. 22.
