DANVILLE, Ky. - A third match in a row went the way of Centre men's tennis thanks to a 4-3 triumph over Midway University in the Seabury Family Tennis Center.
Division III schools are playing the 2024-25 season under the 7-point dual match format. The ITA and the NCAA announced the one-year, joint pilot of the scoring format in July of 2024.
The one doubles win for the Colonels came in the no. 3 match for Isaac Flanery and Jett Anderson. The pairing was the first of the season for the duo and they won 6-2 versus Aleksey Granitsa and Tyler Fox.
Emilo Ventura Ramirez and Dylan Dethridge played close in the top-seeded doubles match but fell 6-4 to Axel Sperling and Izan Casado. Jasper Gazzo and Chase Turley fell in the no. 2 pairing 6-3 to Ferran Clapes and German Collado.
All but two of the singles matches went the way of the home team. Dethridge remained undefeated early in collegiate singles play with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Sperling in the no. 1 match. The freshman is 4-0 on the season and has played in the first, third, fourth, and fifth spot.
Anderson stepped up to the second slot for the first time in 2025 and prevailed over his opponent. The senior took the match 7-5, 6-2 over Daniel Pinzon. Turley also moved up, this time to the third seed, and won 6-1, 6-4 over Casado.
Anderson Gosnell won a three-set battle in the no. 6 slot over Granitsa with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Emilo Ventura Ramirez fell 6-0, 6-3 to Collado in the no. 4 match and William Howell was setback by Clapes 6-3, 6-2.
WRAPPING UP
The final match of a five match homestand comes Saturday. Centre hosts Transylvania at 2 p.m. in Danville.
