DANVILLE, Ky.- Centre men's lacrosse took to Andy Frye Stadium to host Southern Virginia in their 2025 home opener. Leading from the start, the Colonels trounced the Knights by a score of 20-8, improving to a 2-2 overall mark.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels dominated from the start, outscoring the Knights 7-0 in the opening frame.
David Caldwell opened the scoring less than a minute in. Caldwell then helped
Max Speers with the next goal followed by
Henry Cato with the third unanswered point. For the remainder of the quarter, Caldwell and
Graysen Jolly netted two each to bring the score to Centre seven, Southern Virginia (SVU) zero.
- The Knights ended their scoring drought with a pair of goals to open the second quarter.
Ryan Hall and Caldwell later answered with two unbroken goals before SVU countered with two more of their own. The Colonels closed the half with a 3-0 scoring run featuring Caldwell,
Nick Witcher, and Speers. Entering halftime, Centre led 12-4.
- The third period saw five goals from the Colonels and just one from the Knights. By the end of the quarter,
Nico Valentino and
Conner Maggard entered the scoring column as Caldwell kept dominating, adding an additional three goals to his tally.
- The fourth period was the closest, both teams netting three goals each. The Knights opened with two back-to-back, but the Colonels answered with a pair before Valentino closed the game's scoring. When regulation ran out, the final score read Centre 20, SVU eight.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Caldwell led the game with a career high eight goals, adding one assist for a total of nine points. Jolly and Valentino followed with three each while Speers netted two. Hall, Maggard, Cato, and Witcher tallied one goal apiece.

Luca Bowling led the game in both face-off wins and groundballs. The rookie won 14 of his 17 face-offs while scooping eight groundballs.
- In the crease,
Devin Melton,
Sammy Zickel, and
Graham Driscoll split time. Together the trio tallied ten saves and led the Colonels to 17-22 clears.
- As a team, Centre favored in groundballs, shots taken, clears, face-offs, and caused turnovers.
