Women’s tennis trounces Tigers

DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre women's tennis finished the weekend with yet another 6-1 win, this time over the visiting Georgetown College Tigers.

Division III schools are playing the 2024-25 season under the 7-point dual match format. The ITA and the NCAA announced the one-year, joint pilot of the scoring format in July of 2024.

The top two double teams for the Colonels earned wins and secured the doubles point for the home team. Top duo Natalie Black and Kennedy Herring put away Lindsey Rikkerink and Maddie Gill with a 7-6 decision thanks to a 7-5 tiebreak. It is the first win for the pairing this season.

Grace Williams and Carlie Mitchell moved to 2-0 on the early season in the no. 2 slot with a 6-2 decision over Lydia Prince and Molly Archer.

Gigi Gossett and Sophie Maddux won two games in the third-seeded doubles match but fell 6-2 to Abby Moss and Anna White in the end.

All but one singles match went the way of Centre. Williams has won the most matches of any Colonel this year and now sits at 4-0 after a 7-5, 6-0 dispatching of Archer in the top slot.

Herring won her second match of the season as the no. 2 ranked player with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Prince. The sixth-ranked match also was won in straight sets thanks to Sara Dunn winning 6-2, 6-2 over Hana Dixon.

The other two winning singles matches for Centre either involved a tiebreaker or third set. Natalie Black defeated Rikkerink, in the no. 3 match, 6-0, 7-6 with an 8-6 tiebreaker. Carrie Foster forced a third set in the fifth-seeded contest and won 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 over White.

Kayla Harger won a total of seven games but was setback 6-3, 6-4 to no. 4 seed Moss.
