Memphis, TN - Centre Women's Tennis saw its season end in the quarterfinals of the SAA Tournament after a 4-1 loss to Rhodes.
The Colonels got off to a promising start as
Grace Williams and
Carlie Mitchell cruised to a 6-3 win in #2 doubles to start the day. Rhodes even the doubles count with a win in #3 doubles over
Shelby Franklin and
Olivia Watson. It came down to a tight matchup in the top doubles match featuring
Kennedy Herring and
Natalie Black. After an intense battle, Rhodes was able to scratch out a 7-5 win to claim the doubles team point.
The Lynx rode the momentum right into singles play. Centre's lone win came thanks to
Shelby Franklin in the #5 slot. She easily took down her opponent, 6-1, 6-4. While she was winning, Rhodes did the same in #1, #2 and #4 singles to get to the needed 4 team points to clinch the win.
Carrie Foster was leading 2-0 in the third set of her match when it was abandoned.
Sara Dunn was also on the verge of a win in #6 singles as she won the opening set 6-2 and was ahead 4-2 in the second when play was called off.
Centre now turns its focus to the offseason and the task of replacing a stellar six-pack of Colonel seniors (
Kayla Harger,
Kennedy Herring,
Skylar Keesee,
Sophie Maddux,
Carlie Mitchell,
Grace Williams), who depart after amazing careers.
