Women's Tennis eliminated from SAA Tournament

Memphis, TN - Centre Women's Tennis saw its season end in the quarterfinals of the SAA Tournament after a 4-1 loss to Rhodes.

The Colonels got off to a promising start as Grace Williams and Carlie Mitchell cruised to a 6-3 win in #2 doubles to start the day. Rhodes even the doubles count with a win in #3 doubles over Shelby Franklin and Olivia Watson. It came down to a tight matchup in the top doubles match featuring Kennedy Herring and Natalie Black. After an intense battle, Rhodes was able to scratch out a 7-5 win to claim the doubles team point.

The Lynx rode the momentum right into singles play. Centre's lone win came thanks to Shelby Franklin in the #5 slot. She easily took down her opponent, 6-1, 6-4. While she was winning, Rhodes did the same in #1, #2 and #4 singles to get to the needed 4 team points to clinch the win. Carrie Foster was leading 2-0 in the third set of her match when it was abandoned. Sara Dunn was also on the verge of a win in #6 singles as she won the opening set 6-2 and was ahead 4-2 in the second when play was called off.

Centre now turns its focus to the offseason and the task of replacing a stellar six-pack of Colonel seniors (Kayla Harger, Kennedy Herring, Skylar Keesee, Sophie Maddux, Carlie Mitchell, Grace Williams), who depart after amazing careers.
