ATLANTA - Earlier this week the Southern Athletic Association released its postseason awards for men's basketball and Centre was well represented, with three players making the All-Conference teams and
Nolan Wahl being voted Newcomer of the Year.
Wahl earned the Colonels' third consecutive SAA Newcomer of the Year award as well as a spot on the All-SAA Honorable Mention squad after a fine freshman season. He tied Centre career rebounding leader Tyler Wesley '16 for the highest rebounding average ever for a Centre freshman, as his 8.3 rebounds per game and six regular season double-doubles ranked third in the league. Wahl's 19-rebound performance in Centre's comeback victory against Webster was the highest rebound total in a single game by any Centre player in the 21st century.
Senior
Jaxson Banks was named All-SAA Second Team for his first career postseason honor. In his first season as a full-time starter, Banks took advantage of his added responsibilities and scored in double figures in all but one game this season, including each of the last 25 games. He was counted on as one of Centre's big shot makers in 2024-25, hitting arguably the biggest one - a three-pointer at the buzzer - to lift a shorthanded Centre team to a win over Methodist in December. Banks hit the three at both a high clip and volume as he ranked second in the conference in three-pointers made and three-point percentage to go along with 89 percent accuracy at the free throw line.
Sophomore
Landen Hamilton was the only repeat All-Conference honoree for Centre in 2024-25, earning All-SAA Second Team honors after being named Honorable Mention as a freshman. Hamilton stepped up his game in every area as a sophomore, leading the SAA in both steals and assist/turnover ratio despite missing part of December and January due to injury. The Centre point guard had a season full of complete box scores as he ranked in the top ten in the conference in scoring and assists to go along with the league lead in thefts. His 30-point explosion in late January was the highest scoring game by a Centre player this season.
Finally, the conference also released its All-Sportsmanship team for men's basketball and Centre's
Carson Wooldridge was this year's representative for the Colonels.
The Colonels will head to Berry to battle no. 2 seed Sewanee in the SAA Tournament semifinals on Feb. 28.
