DANVILLE, Ky.- On Wednesday evening, the Centre men's lacrosse team took to Andy Frye Stadium to host the Pioneers in a midweek match-up. With nine different scorers, the Colonels bettered their instate opponent 14-8, improving to 3-4 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Pioneers opened the game's scoring 90 seconds in, but
Max Speers quickly evened the score with the help from
Ryan Hall. Transylvania (Transy) regained the lead with two unanswered points, but
Ben Hubbs and
Graysen Jolly answered to retie the game at 3-3. With five minutes to go in the frame, the Pioneers netted a man-up goal that offered a one-point lead entering the next period.
- The Colonels took control in the second quarter, blanking Transy 3-0 in the 15-minutes before halftime. Hall scored the first goal two minutes in with the assist from Jolly. Less than a minute later,
Davis Wilmes found the back of the net to put the Colonels ahead for good.
Miguel Sayers closed the first half's scoring with an unassisted goal, moving the score to Centre six, Transy four.

Nico Valentino continued Centre's scoring run into the second half, finding the back of the net off a feed from Wilmes. The Pioneers answered to end their nearly 23-minute scoring drought. The Colonels put up two more points before the end of the third, the first being a man-up goal from
David Caldwell, the second, an unassisted score from Jolly with eight seconds on the clock. Entering the final period, Centre led 10-5.
- The Pioneers caught traction in the initial minutes of the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to three with a 3-1 scoring run. Centre's
Jack Forrester broke up the Pioneers' stretch with his first point of the season. In the final seven minutes, the Colonels placed three successive goals that gave both Caldwell and Hall hat-tricks. Caldwell netted the first during a man-up situation and Hall followed with an even score two minutes later. In the final 50 seconds, Caldwell netted the last goal from half field, setting the score at Centre14, Transy eight.
INSIDE THE BOX SCOR
- Caldwell and Hall led Centre offensively, each placing three goals. Seven other Colonels found the back of the net including Valentino, Jolly, Wilmes, Hubbs, Speers, Sayers, and Forrester.
- Hall tied for the game's leader in points with four.

Luca Bowling led the game in ground balls with seven. At the face-off the rookie went 15-23.
- In goal,
Devin Melton matched his career high of 15 saves and led the Colonels to 20-22 clears.

Mac Shafer and
Vassar Barney tied for the game's leader in caused turnovers with two each.
