ATLANTA – Centre women's track & field kicked off the 2025 outdoor season as they competed in the Emory Spring Break Classic, facing a field of teams from multiple divisions, including some of the best in Division III. The event was not scored, but Centre turned in many fine performances and broke a pair of school records.
The first record to go down was in the 100m as All-American
Madjo Doumbia surpassed her previous school record from her sophomore season with a time of 11.83 to finish second overall. All-American
Chloe Hein took sixth place with a time of 12.16. In the 200m, Doumbia came close to another school record as she finished third with a time of 24.71, with Hein coming in sixth again.
In the 800m,
Janea Bottinelli cracked the top ten as she finished ninth with a time of 2:22.36. Bottinelli later finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.70. The women's 1500m open race saw
Kate Keller finish third with a time of 5:04.72, with
Adelyn Shupert taking tenth place in 5:19.74.
Both 5k races were good ones for the Centre women. In the invitational, the Colonels posted a 1-2-3 finish as
Sophie Bouldin won with a time of 18:02.59, followed by
Gracie West in second and
Erin Haugh in third. In the open,
Maddie Riley finished fifth in 19:54.47, followed by
Anna Yates in seventh and
Sarah Pape in eighth.
After posting a pair of sixth place finishes in sprints, Hein finished with a mark of 19-5.25 (5.92m) to win the long jump and break her prior school record in the event by a quarter of an inch. In the pole vault,
Lyla Bordwine posted a clear of 9-10 (3.00m) to take tenth place.
In the throwing events,
Lindsay Jessie posted a mark of 122-1 (37.21m) to take seventh place in the discus. Rookie
Zoey Shahid-Scott threw 38-10.25 (11.84m) in her first career outdoor shot put, only four feet shy of the school record.
