NORFOLK, Va. - A bout with an NCAA Division I team came for the Centre men's tennis team on Monday and the Norfolk State Spartans came out on top 7-0.
The loss dropped the Colonels to 4-5, while the Spartans moved to 7-9.
One win came for Centre and it was at no. 2 doubles.
Dylan Dethridge and
Isaac Flanery were up 5-1 when Vladisav Gorbatenko and Deniz Okyay defaulted.
Jett Anderson and
William Howell paired up for the first time this season and saw action in the no. 3 match. They faced Igor Kubalka and Luka Cvjetkovic and fell 6-4.
Ben Rueff and
Ty Bush were the top pair and fell 6-3 to Jakub Solarski and Frederick McRae.
Singles play saw all action wrap up in straight sets. Rueff fell to Gorbatenko in the top-seeded contest 6-2, 6-4. Bush was in the no. 2 slot and was set back by Solarski 6-1, 6-0.
In the back four matches each Colonel won multiple games.
Anderson Gosnell won four total games in a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Okyay in the no. 3 match.
Emerson Dean picked up two game wins in his 6-2, 6-0 losing effort to McRae in no. 4 action.
Chase Turley won one game in each set of a 6-1, 6-1 setback to Kubalka in the fifth-seeded contest. Howell won the second most games for the Colonels in singles thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 effort in a no. 6 spot loss to Cvjetkovic.
