ROANOKE, Va.- On the Wednesday of spring break, Centre men's lacrosse traveled to Virginia to take on the Maroons in a non-conference game. After a close battle, Roanoke's fourth quarter run overwhelmed the Colonels with a final score of 15-12.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Roanoke got off to a hasty start, scoring two unbroken goals in the opening three minutes.
Max Speers halved the deficit less than 50 seconds later, putting Centre on the board with an unassisted score. The Maroons found the back of the net next before Centre's
Ben Hubbs responded off a feed from
Ryan Black. Roanoke rattled off a trio of goals before the Colonels closed the period's scoring.
David Caldwell joined the scoring column with six seconds left in the frame, moving the score to Roanoke six, Centre three.
- The Colonels controlled ball possession for much of the quarter, eventually opening the scoring seven minutes in.
Ryan Hall kick started a 4-0 run that allowed Centre to take the lead.
Noah Malubay made the next with the assist from Black and less than a minute later, Hubbs placed the tying goal.
Graysen Jolly later closed the run and gave Centre the first, but brief, lead. With just 31 seconds left, the Maroons broke their silence and tied the game at 7-7 entering the break.
- Out of halftime, the two teams began trading goals. Roanoke scored first but Hubbs responded a minute later. The Maroons tallied another point just to be answered again, this one from Speers in a man-up situation. Roanoke broke the pattern with a 3-1 run to close the period,
Henry Cato scoring Centre's point.
- Black, with the help of Caldwell, initiated the final period with a goal 90 seconds in. The Maroons scored the next three points to stretch their hold to four. Black scored the final goal of the contest, moving the score to 15-12, the Maroons favoring.
