Men's tennis comes up short at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - A back-and-fourth match for Centre men's tennis ended in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Averett University squad.

With Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play just around the corner, the Colonels hold a record of 4-7. The Cougars moved on to a 7-2 mark with the win.

Centre remained strong in doubles action. After losing the no. 3 match, where Chase Turley and Jasper Gazzo fell to Florian Bert and Alex Donnelly 6-2, the Colonels won the next two to secure the point.

Ty Bush and Ben Rueff moved back above .500 with a win in the top match. They defeated Prabjeet Chandhok and Jaeden Mukkaladyil 7-6 (7-5) to move to 5-4 on the season. Dylan Dethridge and Isaac Flanery made it three wins in a row as they took Rafael Jodas and Sam Egui down 6-2 in the second-seeded contest.

Two members of the Gold & White team won in singles play and each went to three sets. Dethridge battled Chandhok and won 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the first singles win of the day for Centre. Jett Anderson won his three-set thriller 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Jodas in the fifth-seeded match.

Those matches were not the only ones to require an extra set. Bush fought to force a third set in the top match after going down early but still fell 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to Satwik Kollepalli. Turley won his first set but fell in the no. 6 contest to Lucas Fiandra by a tally of 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Rueff and Flanery fell in straight sets in the other two solo contests. It was a 6-3, 7-5 score versus Mukkaladyil that took down Rueff in the no. 2 match and a score of 6-0, 6-0 was what propelled Bert over Flanery in the third-seeded contest.
