BEREA, Ohio.- On Saturday afternoon, the Colonels hit the road, traveling north to face Baldwin Wallace. Although outscoring the Yellow Jackets 10-6 in the second half, Centre's second quarter scoring drought cost them, ultimately losing by a score of 16-13.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The game was close for the opening ten minutes with both teams netting two goals. Baldwin Wallace scored the first goal, but Centre's
David Caldwell answered during a man-up opportunity with the assist from
Max Speers. The Yellow Jackets tallied their second point and again the Colonels responded,
Graysen Jolly claiming it. Baldwin Wallace netted a pair of goals to close the period, bringing the score to 4-2, the Yellow Jackets favoring.
- Baldwin Wallace took control in the second quarter, outscoring Centre 6-1 in the frame. Jolly placed the Colonels' only goal of the period, moving the score to 10-3 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, the Yellow Jackets continued to favor offensively but midway through, the momentum began to swing in Centre's direction. Caldwell opened a 5-0 tear for the Colonels to cut the deficit to five. By the end of the quarter,
Ben Hubbs joined the scoring column as Jolly and Caldwell secured hat tricks.
- Centre opened the final frame with a 3-0 run featuring a goal from Jolly, one from
Nick Witcher, and a man-up point from Hubbs. The Yellow Jackets tallied two late goals that came before and after Centre's final point from Hubbs. Although outscoring the Yellow Jackets 4-2 in the frame, the second quarter's scoring drought cost the Colonels. When regulation ran out, the final was set at 16-13, the Yellow Jackets winning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jolly led the team in goals with five. Caldwell and Hubbs had a hat-trick each.
- Hubbs led the Colonels in ground balls with six.
- In goal,
Devin Melton and
Sammy Zickel split time. Together the two tallied 13 saves and led Centre to 16-22 clears.
- The Colonels went 2-2 in their man-up opportunities.
