Softball edged by Ravens

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball mounted a dramatic comeback that fell just short in game two of a twin bill that was swept by Anderson University.

The Colonels fell 10-2 in the first game and 12-10 in the second contest.

GAME ONE: Anderson 10, Centre 2

- Centre fell behind early as the Ravens had a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the second frame.
- Emily Lammers hit the first home run of the season for the Colonels to lead off the bottom of the inning. The junior's homer was the eighth of her career.
- The second run of the contest for the home team came across in the bottom of the third. A walk and back-to-back fielder's choices put Rylee Sandifer on first with two outs. Kira Mashburn was up next and hit the first double of her collegiate career to put two in scoring position. A Lammers single, after a Morgan Tabor walk, sent Sandifer home.
- Three runs came home for Anderson in the top of the fourth inning. Aleiah Branin had Centre's final hit in the contest with a single in the bottom of the fifth. The Colonels went on to fall 10-2 in the first game.
- Layne Ogle got the start in the circle and went one and two thirds innings. Kennedy Caudill was the next hurler for Centre and struck out two in two and one third innings of work. Ashley Howard pitched the final inning for the Colonels.

GAME TWO: Anderson 12, Centre 10

- Centre took an early lead in the second contest. A bases loaded walk followed a Lammers single, a Cheney Floyd fielder's choice, and a Jada Challiss walk to score one. A sacrifice fly from Branin followed and scored Challiss.
- The Ravens tallied two runs of their own in the top of the third. Anderson added to the lead with a six-run top of the fourth.
- It was a strong fourth frame for the home team as well. A Caudill single and Caroline Unruh double set up Branin for an RBI single. A sacrifice fly followed two batters later and scored Unruh. Tabor was up next and hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-5.
- The visiting team scored their final four runs in the top of the fifth to take a seven-run lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Caudill hit an RBI single and Branin earned an RBI double to cut the lead to 12-5.
- The Colonel team mounted a comeback in the bottom of the final frame. After a fly out to start the inning, singles from Unruh and Branin put Centre in good position. Sandifer hit a two-RBI single to cut the lead to three. The freshman stole second which put her in position to score on Tabor's following double, which was the final score in the 12-10 loss for the Colonels.
- Howard got the start and had two stints in the circle in the fame. She spent four and two thirds innings dealing for Centre and struck out two. Madison Mullender spent one and two thirds innings hurling and Caudill spent the final frame in the circle.
