2026 Softball Final game

Softball wraps up 2026 season

Danville, KY - Centre Softball finished up the 2026 campaign on Sunday with a 10-0 loss to SAA regular-season champion, Trinity. While the result was not the desired one, the day became a celebration of a stellar senior class and of a season that showed true resilience and promise for the future.

Trinity set the tone from the get go via a lead-off homer to left center. Later in the inning with 2 on and 1 out, the Tigers added to the lead with a 3-run homer to take a 4-0 lead and end the day for Centre starter, Sophia Lay. Ashley Howard came on and retired the next two batters to end the inning. The Colonels tried to answer in the bottom of the inning. Sarah Bradley led off with a walk, moved to 2nd on a grounder and 3rd on a passed ball. Emily Lammers drew a walk to put runners at the corners with 1 out. Rylee Sandifer then hit her first pitch hard to the Tiger shortstop, who was able to quickly turn a 6-3 double play and wipe out the inning.

Trinity added another run in the top of the 3rd and wanted more, but Howard was able to get out of the inning by stranding two runners on base. Centre had another chance in the bottom of the inning wiped out on another double play. Madison Skibo beat out an infield single to lead off. Bradley stepped up next and bunted a ball into the air that the Trinity catcher was able to snag and then fire to first for the DP. Lammers went down on strikes next to quickly end the inning and keep Trinity up, 5-0 going to the 4th.

The 4th and 5th innings were quiet on each side. Inning 6 was anything but silent. The loudest noise from the visitors came on a 3-run homer that capped a 5-run inning to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead. With the run rule now in play, Centre made substitutions to allow seniors Emily Lammers, Layne Ogle, Cheney Floyd, and Morgan Tabor all exit the game for the last time as Colonels. The crowd responded with a standing ovation, full of pride for their time in the gold and black. Izzy Rushing was able to pinch hit in the bottom of the inning and drew a walk. Trinity closed out the bottom of the 6th for the 10-0 run rule win.

Centre closed out the 2026 season with 16 wins, quadruple its total from 2025. Thirteen home wins were the most since 2017. The Colonels were also to get a win off Trinity and two over 4-time defending SAA champion, Berry. It gives plenty of reason for the Colonels to carry optimism into 2027.
