NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Centre men's tennis, the no. 5 seed, won a thrilling quarterfinal Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament bout over no. 4 Berry by a tally of 4-3.
The match started with doubles which went the way of the Vikings.
Ben Rueff and
Chase Turley won the only pairing contest for the Colonels with a 6-3 tally over Jake Chapman and Aiden Benoualid in the no. 2 match.
Ty Bush and
Dylan Dethridge fought to a tiebreaker in the top doubles match but fell 7-6 (7-5) to Noah Koch and Léo Nedkov.
Isaac Flanery and
Emerson Dean fell 6-4 to Jace Goode and Bohdan Higley.
The singles portion of the match was where the contest was won. Centre took the first two matches that were completed. Flanery defeated Benoualid in the no. 4 match 6-2, 6-2. Bush was next to finish and triumphed 7-5, 6-2 over Chapman in the second-seeded match.
Berry took the top contest as Koch defeated Rueff 7-5, 6-2. They also took the no. 6 ranked match with Goode defeating
Jasper Gazzo 6-5, 6-4.
With the match tied at 3-all, thanks to Dethridge defeating Nedkov 7-6, 6-3 in the no. 4 match, it came down to the results of the fifth-seeded match. A three-set thriller ensued and saw
Jett Anderson take down Higley 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to take the match for the Colonels.

The semifinals of the SAA Tournament are up next for the Colonels. Centre will face top seed Sewanee on Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Burns Park Tennis Center.
