DANVILLE, Ky. – In front of a raucous environment inside Alumni Gym, the Centre volleyball team increased its winning streak to four games as the Colonels defeated the Transylvania Pioneers 3-1 in an in-state rivalry matchup.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In the opening set, Centre used an early 9-1 run to take a 13-6 lead. Transylvania battled back and eventually tied the score at 20-20 as the two teams alternated the next five points. A kill from
Syd Bietz gave Centre another lead, and after an ace by
Madi Winfield pushed it to the brink, Bietz came through with another kill as the Colonels took a 25-22 win.
- The Pioneers controlled the second set as they built a small lead, held Centre at bay and then scored the final four points to even the contest with a 25-17 victory.
- The third set delivered high drama as Centre held the lead for most of it before Transy rallied to take a 20-18 advantage. Centre rallied to retake the lead at 21-20. After a Pioneer point, Centre delivered four kills in a row, the last one coming from
Sami Lanan, to win 25-21.
- In the fourth set, Centre again played well after overcoming an early 4-0 deficit, outscoring the Pioneers 12-3 to go up by five. An ace by
Rylee Barnes forced a match point at 24-18 and after a pair of Transylvania points, the Colonels scored the next one and sealed the deal with a 25-20 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bietz was the only Centre player to finish with double figures in kills as she led the Colonels with 17, with
Mack Turner adding nine. Turner also tied for a game high with six blocks.

Madi Winfield finished with 39 of the Colonels' 43 assists on the night.
- The Colonels enjoyed a 66-57 edge in digs as
Emersyn Pannell led all players with 20, followed by Bietz and Barnes with ten apiece.
