DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football suffered its first loss of the 2025 season as the passing attack of the no. 13 DePauw Tigers was the biggest difference in a 35-14 defeat inside
Andy Frye Stadium.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- DePauw forced a punt on the first defensive series of the game and quickly went down the field and scored to take an early 7-0 lead.
- On Centre's second series, the Colonels got into the red zone, with
Jack Gohmann connecting on a deep ball to
Dant Bowling to make up most of the yards on the drive. Centre faced 4th & short from the DePauw 12 and went for it, but the Colonels were tackled for a loss and the Tigers took over.
- The two teams traded punts going into the second quarter and then the Tigers took over with consecutive scoring drives to go up by a 21-0 margin.
- With just under seven minutes to go before halftime, Centre went on the march again. The Colonels converted two fourth down plays on the drive, first on a long pass to
Blake Busson and later on a sweep by
Tyler Blythe to put the ball on the 1. Gohmann then dialed his own number and dove for the pylon to put the Colonels on the board. Following a bad snap on the extra point, holder
Jake Carson was able to get into the end zone for an unlikely two-point conversion that cut the lead to 21-8 at the half.
- Centre kept the momentum to start the second half after the Tigers missed a field goal on their opening drive, but a sack on third down and a short punt gave DePauw great field position, and they took advantage, getting into the end zone on two plays to go back up 28-8.
- The Colonels went three and out on their next drive and DePauw again drove quickly down the field for their final touchdown of the evening to take a 35-8 lead.
- Centre responded on their next drive as Gohmann and Busson connected three times on the series, including a 39-yard completion to cross into enemy territory and a 13-yard touchdown strike as Centre cut it to 35-14 after a missed PAT.
- Neither team scored in the fourth quarter as each team turned away their opponent on fourth down and DePauw missed a field goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Aided by four quarterback sacks, the Colonels were limited to a net rushing total of -34 yards.
- Gohmann had another strong day of passing, completing 26 of 47 for 287 yards and a touchdown. His top target was Busson, who finished with 11 catches for 136 yards and a score at the end of the third quarter.
