On Saturday, Centre Men's Soccer honored seniors
Andrew Bartosik,
Eumir Rodriguez,
AJ Daniels,
Amit Shahar,
Jason Weisheit,
Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta, and
Zeke Saviello, in front of a packed Amend Field crowd. With family, friends, and loved ones looking on, the group led the Colonels to a 1-1 draw against Covenant, the team's 4th tie of the year.
Bartosik made his first start of the year in goal and just had a single moment to handle, which he did, before being lifted to a loud applause while
Grayson Parish took over in net.
Gideon Malone, who subbed in for
AJ Daniels in the opening minutes, had the first Colonel chance in the 21st minute, but the try climbed just over the bar.
Amit Shahar had a go in the 28th minute but also could not gather the ball on target. The teams traded possession and physicality the rest of the way as the game went scoreless to the half.
Centre came out of the break more assertive on ball and saw it pay off almost immediately. In the 48th minute,
Zeke Saviello fired a ball from the wide side into the box, where
Amit Shahar was able to gather and fire it home to put the Colonels on the board and in the lead.
Ryan O'Hara nearly doubled the lead in the 52nd minute but a diving stop by the Scots keeper kept the game at 1-0. Covenant then found a chance and capitalized with a tying goal in the 61st minute off a deflection inside the 6-yard box. The Scots nearly took the lead in the 70th minute, but
Grayson Parish made a leaping save on a shot destined for the top-right corner of the net. Centre's final chance for the winner came in the 85th minute on the foot of
Jason Weisheit, but Covenant's keeper was there for the save to preserve the eventual draw.
The Colonels now set their sights on the SAA, starting with a Friday trip to Jackson, MS to take on Millsaps starting at 6:00pm ET.
