Volleyball gets first conference wins of 2025

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Centre volleyball returned to action with another Southern Athletic Association mega pod, this time held at Berry. The Saturday session saw the Colonels take on Millsaps and Oglethorpe. After defeating Millsaps in four sets, the Colonels completed the sweep with a 3-0 win over Oglethorpe.

Game 1: Centre 3, Millsaps 1

- The opening set saw both teams trade the lead back and forth several times before the Majors reeled off five points in a row midway through the set to take the lead for good. Centre cut the deficit to two points on three separate occasions before Millsaps scored the final three to take a 25-20 win.
- Centre wasted no time evening the contest as they scored the first six points of the second set and 11 of the first 12 points. That was all the Colonels needed to comfortably pull away to a 25-12 victory as Syd Bietz put home the final kill to make things all square.
- In the pivotal third set, Millsaps held the lead at 14-11 before Centre responded with a 5-0 run to go back in front. That put all the momentum in favor of the Colonels, who scored the final five points of the set to take a 25-18 win, with the final point coming from an ace from Bietz.
- The score was tied at 12-12 in the fourth set before Centre scored the next six points to take a lead that proved insurmountable. Just like in the previous set, the Colonels scored the last five points to lock down the win at 25-17 as Mack Turner delivered the clinching kill for Centre.

Game 2: Centre 3, Oglethorpe 0

- The Colonels dug an early hole in the first set as they fell behind 12-3 before before getting right back into it with an 8-1 run. Trailing 19-16, Centre reeled off five points in a row to go on top and then scored the last four points to get the win by a score of 25-20.
- Centre got off to a much better start in the second set as they jumped out to a 12-4 lead. The Colonels never trailed after the hot start and pulled away to a 25-19 victory as Turner and Maya Kondik combined for a tandem block to provide the winning point.
- In the third set, Centre trailed 11-7 before firing off 11 of the next 13 points to grab the lead for good as they never let Oglethorpe get closer than three points the rest of the way, winning 25-19.
