DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football began the 2025 season as they took on a Hanover squad that posted an 8-3 overall record in 2024. The Colonels used a huge second quarter to pull off a 23-15 victory over the anthers to start their season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first quarter belonged to the Panthers as they took nearly nine minutes off the clock with a 14-play drive on their opening series, culminating with a touchdown pass to put Centre in a 7-0 hole.
- The Colonels held the ball on their own long drive to end the first quarter and start the second, relying on short and intermediate passes by
Jack Gohmann to move the ball. On 2nd & goal from the 11, Gohmann found
Blake Busson in the corner of the end zone for a tying touchdown.
- On Hanover's second drive, the Panthers were able to pick up several first downs, but the drive stalled at the Centre 30 and four straight incompletions resulted in a turnover on downs.
- Centre capitalized on the turnover with another long touchdown drive as Gohmann hit
Carter Chandler for a score that put Centre up 13-7 following a bad snap on the extra point attempt.
- The Colonels kept the scoring going in the second quarter as
Jack Kennedy converted a short field and Centre took a 16-7 lead going into the half.
- In the third quarter, Hanover threw deep on the first three plays from scrimmage and the third was intercepted by
Trey Henson to put a stop to that drive.
- On Centre's first drive of the second half, Chandler and Busson each caught key passes and then Gohmann lofted one to
Dant Bowling, who made an excellent catch in the end zone to give Centre a 23-7 edge.
- The Panthers put up a fight at the end of the third quarter as they connected on a deep ball to get inside the 10 and scored one play later, with the two-point conversion making it 23-15.
- Hanover looked to tie on the first series of the fourth quarter as they reached Centre territory again, but
Will Nichols broke up a pass on fourth down to turn away the Panthers.
- On Hanover's next possession, the Panthers approached midfield before a well-timed blitz resulted in Centre's second interception of the game, this one courtesy of
Stephen Mack.
- Quick hitters from Gohmann to Chandler and the running of
