DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre men's basketball team played its first home game in nearly three weeks as the Colonels avenged last week's loss to the Southwestern Pirates with a 76-69 victory inside Alumni Gym.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to a hot start as
Nolan Wahl made a pair of baskets to give Centre eight of the game's first ten points. Consecutive three-pointers by
Drake Ingram and
Ryan Shene put the Colonels up by double digits for the first time at 16-4.
- Centre continued to play well on both sides of the ball in the opening half.
Graham Krezmien capped off a 12-1 run to make it a 32-11 lead in favor of the Colonels. Ingram finished a 13-point first half for the Colonels by making Centre's final two shots of the half and the home team went into the locker room at halftime with a 43-27 lead.
- The second half picked up where the first half left off, with Centre scoring ten of the first 12 points of the period, with a putback by
Johnny Djema giving the Colonels their biggest lead of the night at 53-29.
- The game got sloppy for part of the second half as Southwestern slowly began to chip away at Centre's lead, eventually pulling to within six points at 61-55. Djema put in another Centre miss to stem the tide, and although that proved to be the last made field goal by the Colonels, a Centre parade to the free throw line was enough to put the game away as Centre made 15 of their last 18 from the stripe.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ingram led the Colonels with 18 points off the bench. Wahl turned in a monster double-double with 14 points and a season high 17 rebounds, the most by any Centre player in a game this season.
- Centre held advantages of 19-11 in points off turnovers, 19-9 on second chance points, 28-13 off the bench, 36-26 in the paint and 23-4 in fast break points.
